Painter Cardiff, for homes along Winding Creek and offices on the estate

In Cardiff you might need a family home repainted, or an office done without losing a working day. Corella Painting is a painter Cardiff businesses and homeowners can have on site in about ten minutes from Adamstown, and we work evenings and weekends when your trading hours need it.

In Cardiff the hardest part of a paint job is often the timing, because the room has to be ready when the staff walk back in.

Painting in Cardiff

Cardiff sits at the top of Lake Macquarie, inland from the water, with Winding Creek running through the middle of town on its way to Cockle Creek and the lake. Its history is coal, orchards and the railway, and the name was adopted in 1889 from the Welsh settlers who lived here. Today the suburb has two sides. One is houses, from older homes near the town centre to brick houses on the slopes towards Cardiff Heights. The other is the Cardiff industrial estate, one of the Hunter's main light-industrial areas, full of offices, showrooms and workshops that can't close for a week while someone paints.

An office kitchen over a weekend

One of our sample jobs is an office kitchen in Cardiff. The brief was simple: a dusty-blue feature wall, the rest of the walls in fresh white, and no lost working day. So we painted it over a weekend, while the office was empty, with low-odour paint. On Monday the room was ready.

That's the way most Cardiff business work runs. A showroom, a reception area or an amenities block can't be shut for a week, so we paint it when it's empty. Before we quote, we ask when you open, when deliveries come and who has keys, and the quote sets out the hours we'll be there. Commercial jobs are priced per job, because no two layouts are the same.

Houses on the creek and the hill

The houses in Cardiff have different problems from the lakeside suburbs. Salt off the ocean is less of a worry this far inland. Sun and damp are what wear paint out here. A west wall on an open block fades and chalks in the afternoon sun. A house in the low ground near Winding Creek, or one tucked under trees on a slope, stays damp on its south side and grows mould under the paint.

So the work changes with the wall. On the shaded side we treat and wash off the mould, then wait for the wall to dry right through before anything goes on. On the sunny side we sand back faded, chalky paint until it's sound and put on two full coats. Gutters, garage doors and timber trims get the same care. On most Cardiff brick homes those are what need the paint, and the bare brick is best left as it is.

If your house is older, from the years when Cardiff was still a mining town, it may have been painted many times over. We take the loose paint off until what's left is firmly stuck, feather the edges and prime any bare timber, which takes longer but is the only way the new paint stays on.

Ten minutes up the road

Cardiff is the closest Lake Macquarie suburb to our base in Adamstown, about ten minutes by Park Avenue and Myall Road. For an after-hours office job, that means we can come in for a final check on Sunday afternoon and be back first thing Monday if a touch-up is needed. For a house, it means we're on site early, and a sample pot or a forgotten tin of filler is never far away.

Painting in Cardiff: your questions

Can you paint our Cardiff office over a weekend?

Yes. One of our sample jobs is a Cardiff office kitchen: a dusty-blue feature wall and fresh white walls, painted over a weekend so work never stopped. We protect desks and equipment while we work and hand the room back ready for Monday.

Will the staff smell paint when they come back to work?

We use low-odour paint on office jobs and leave the space aired before we go. On the sample Cardiff kitchen, the room was ready on Monday. If anyone on your team is sensitive to smells, tell us when we quote and we'll plan the drying time around them.

We lease a unit on the Cardiff industrial estate. Can you paint it?

Yes, as long as whoever controls the building agrees. Many leases say the landlord decides on outside colours, so we can quote to you and send the scheme to the landlord or the owners corporation before we start. Commercial jobs are quoted per job, never from a price list.

Can you repaint our shopfront in Cardiff while we stay open?

Usually, yes. We paint the front in sections, early in the morning or after close, keep the door clear for customers and put out signs where paint is wet. If the awning or signage needs to come off, we'll tell you on the quote so you can book the signwriter.

Our house is down near Winding Creek. Does that change the job?

It can. Houses in low ground or under trees stay damp for longer, and the shaded walls tend to grow mould under the paint. We kill and wash off any mould first, let the walls dry properly, and only then prime and paint. Painting over damp is what makes a finish peel early.

Our Cardiff showroom has steel wall cladding that has faded. Can it be painted?

Most of the time. BlueScope's guide to overpainting its coated steel has the cladding washed, lightly scoured with kitchen scourer pads, rinsed with fresh water and dried, then painted, generally in a water-based acrylic. Overpainting voids any BlueScope warranty, and the guide doesn't cover matt textured or metallic finishes, so we check yours first.

Tell us what needs painting

A few lines and a photo or two is enough. We'll ring to book a look, then leave you a written quote with every surface and every coat on it. No obligation, and no follow-up calls chasing you if you decide to wait a while longer.
