Painting services: your questions

Can you do just the trims, or one room, rather than the whole house?

Yes. Plenty of our jobs are a single room, a front fence or the trims and fascias on their own. We still look over the rest of the house at the quote, because peeling eaves or a rusting gutter next to a fresh trim can undo the new paint, and it's cheaper to know now.

Why do the prices have such a wide range?

Because two houses the same size can be very different jobs. How much old paint has to come off, how many repairs there are, how high the walls go, and how many colours and how much cutting-in you want all move the price. The guide gives you a fair starting point; the visit turns it into a written figure for your house.

Is the quote fixed, or will it change once you start?

It's a written price for the surfaces and coats listed on it, and it only changes if you change the job. If prep turns up something nobody could see, like rot behind a board or rust under a flaking patch, we stop, show you and price it before doing any more.

Do you supply the paint?

Yes, and it's in the quote, by brand, product and colour, for every coat. We buy trade paint from the major makers and match the product to the surface: a roof paint for a roof, an enamel for doors and trims, a low-sheen acrylic for weatherboards. If you have a colour from another maker, we can match it.

Which of these jobs need a licence in NSW?

Residential painting worth more than $5,000 in labour and materials (including GST) needs a contractor licence to do, contract for or advertise. Stand-alone interior painting contracts have been exempt since 2015. Our licence number is on every page of this site and on your quote.

What order should the work happen in on a full repaint?

Top down and outside first: the roof, then gutters, eaves and fascias, then walls, then windows, doors and trims, then decks and fences last, so nothing drips onto finished work. Inside it's ceilings, then walls, then trims and doors, with the floors covered the whole way.

Tell us what needs painting

A few lines and a photo or two is enough. We'll ring to book a look, then leave you a written quote with every surface and every coat on it. No obligation, and no follow-up calls chasing you if you decide to wait a while longer.
