Your Toronto house might be one of the older ones near the Boulevarde, or a newer home looking east across the lake. Corella Painting works as a painter Toronto homeowners can book for either, from Adamstown, about twenty-five minutes away round the top of the lake.
On Toronto's shore the lake faces east, so the front of the house gets the water and the back of the house gets the afternoon sun.
Painting in Toronto
Toronto is the main town on the western shore of Lake Macquarie, and the shopping and services centre for the bays around it, from Carey Bay and Kilaben Bay to Rathmines and Wangi Wangi. A land company bought part of the old grant in 1885 and subdivided it in 1887, as the Great Northern Railway arrived, and the Toronto Hotel went up in 1887 in locally made bricks. The Boulevarde runs down to the foreshore at Victory Parade. Around it you'll find older cottages near the town centre, brick homes on the rising streets behind, and houses along the water that take the weather straight off the lake.
A town laid out in 1887
Toronto is one of the older towns on the lake. It was subdivided in 1887 as the Great Northern Railway came through, and the Toronto Hotel was built the same year from locally made bricks. Some of the cottages near the Boulevarde and the town centre have stood a long time, and they show it in their paint.
A house that age has usually been painted many times, often with whatever was on special. The layers stop sticking to each other, and the top coat lifts in sheets. Inside, the ceilings are higher than in a modern home, the doors and trims are timber, and the plaster has cracked along the joints.
The fix is prep. Outside, we scrape back to a sound edge and sand the step out so it doesn't show through the new paint. Inside, plaster cracks are opened up and filled, doors are sanded smooth, and we work through the house a room at a time, so you're never living in a half-done house.
Facing east over the water
Toronto sits on the western shore, so its lakefront houses look east across the water. That gives the front and back of the house two different jobs. The front, facing the lake, takes the wind and the spray, and the lake is salt water, so salt settles on the walls and timber windows and holds moisture against the paint. After rain, those walls are slow to dry.
The back of the same house faces west. It gets the full afternoon sun, which bakes the paint and fades it, especially on darker colours. On the hillier streets back from the lake, gardens and trees shade the south walls and they grow mould.
So the quote for a Toronto lakefront house often reads like two jobs. The front gets a salt wash, mould treatment and careful work on the timber windows. The back gets sanding back of chalky paint and two full coats.
Round the top of the lake
Our base is in Adamstown, about twenty-five minutes from Toronto round the top of the lake through Speers Point. That's far enough that we plan each day before we leave. We arrive with everything we need for the job, so nobody's driving back to Adamstown for a forgotten tin. If the weather turns and an outside day is lost, we tell you that morning and give you the next date before we hang up.
What we paint in Toronto
01
Lakefront houses, outside
The lake-facing front washed of salt and mould, timber windows and verandah posts scraped and primed, and two coats on the west wall at the back that takes the afternoon sun.
High ceilings, timber doors and trims with many layers of old paint, plaster cracks along the joints opened up, filled and sanded flush, and the house painted a room at a time so you can keep living in it.
Lake-facing decks and verandah floors cleaned, dried out and oiled or stained, with the rails and posts painted first so drips never land on fresh oil.
Our house faces east over the lake. Which wall needs the most work?
Usually two of them. The front takes the weather and the salt off the water and stays damp after rain, so it needs a good wash and any mould treated. The back faces west and takes the full afternoon sun, so the paint there chalks and fades. We prep each one for what it's up against.
We live on the foreshore. Does the council's climate plan for Toronto affect our repaint?
The Teralba to Toronto Climate Resilience Plan is still a draft, exhibited in July 2025, and it deals with flooding, lake level rise, bush fire and urban heat across nine suburbs. For your paint job, the practical point is the bottom of the house. We check low boards, posts and bearers for water damage before we paint.
Our cottage is one of the old ones near the Boulevarde. Is it heritage listed?
Toronto has no heritage conservation area of its own; the closest is up the lake at Teralba. Listing around Lake Macquarie also works house by house, and works to a listed item need a Local Exemption Application or a development application, so we look your cottage up on the council's list before anything changes on the street front.
The timber window frames facing the lake have cracked and gone grey. Can they be saved?
Most of the time, yes. We scrape off the loose paint, let the timber dry, cut out and fill any soft spots, replace cracked putty, prime the bare wood and finish in two coats. If a sill or a section of frame is too far gone, we show you before the quote and it's priced as its own line.
Do you also work in Carey Bay, Kilaben Bay and Rathmines?
Yes. They're all a few minutes past Toronto, so we book them in the same weeks as our Toronto jobs. Tell us your street when you call, and we'll tell you when we're next on the western shore and when we can come out to quote.
Is a single room worth the drive to Toronto?
Yes. As a guide from our own jobs, one room's walls and ceiling starts from about $900 + GST, and we don't add a travel charge for the western shore. We fit smaller jobs into weeks when a crew is already working nearby, so the start date may be a little later than for a full house.
Tell us what needs painting
A few lines and a photo or two is enough. We'll ring to book a look, then leave you a written quote with every surface and every coat on it. No obligation, and no follow-up calls chasing you if you decide to wait a while longer.
